Cowboys & Aliens

The film is directed by Jon Favrea (Elf and Iron Man) and focuses on a strange man, played by Daniel Craig (The Golden Compass and Quantum of Solace), who awakens in the desert with no memory of who he is or where he came from.  Furthermore, attached to his wrist is a strange device that clearly exceeds the level of technology in 1873.  He wanders into an old mining town that looks straight out of one of the old spaghetti westerns from the 60s and 70s, where he quickly finds himself at odds with the local townsfolk.  In fact, not long after his arrival, he manages to get into an altercation with Percy Dolarhyde, played by Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine and There Will be Blood), the son of Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde, played by Harrison Ford (Star Wars and Indiana Jones), a wealthy and powerful cattleman.  After hearing that his son has been arrested in town for the incident, he rides in to throw his weight around and finds both his son and Craig’s character in a stagecoach preparing to be shipped off to the U.S. Marshals.  Craig is apparently wanted for armed robbery and murder, but this will prove to be the least of his problems.

Not long after, strange lights appear in the night sky and reveal themselves to be alien space crafts; of course the town’s folks have no concept of this and so the notion of demons is offered as a possible identity for the strange assailants.  The crafts begin lassoing people up and taking them away; one of them is Dolarhyde’s son.  Craig’s character manages to shoot one of the ships down with the strange device on his wrist, which apparently is some sort of weapon.  Moments later, the alien that had been shot down makes his presence known by killing a couple in one of the nearby houses.  Wounded, the creature takes off into the night and Dolarhyde rallies everyone to go out after it.  What ensues is a blend of Wild West cowboy action and textbook science fiction; two rather strange bedfellows, but ones that surprisingly work well together in this film.

The films worked very well on pretty much all levels, short of a only a few here and there.  The acting is fantastic and all the principle characters hold the audiences' interest.  Furthermore, you actually feel bad for them and want to see them triumph over the aliens who are nothing to take lightly.  Still, unfortunately I found them to be the least interesting thing about this movie.  Granted they were a step up from the ultra bland and emotionless aliens from Battle: Los Angeles, but they were still too generic looking and acting for me in the end.  Yes, they were big, and yes, they were strong, buy they seemed to lack imagination.  Only in one scene do we really see one with an actual personality.  Still, I suppose that's better then B.L.A. where they had none to speak of.  Just once I would like to see aliens with actual personalities and as legitimate characters as opposed to being just movie monsters.  That, and I wish they would actually make them look cool.  Something about their design just struck me as generic.

Won't Last a Day Without You

From the get-go, everything about "Won't Last A Day Without You" screams rehash. Do we need to point out that this is another film in countless local romcoms that are released every few weeks? The title alone is unoriginal - again using an old love song as its main title (and ofcourse, lest we forget, as the movie's theme song). It's time like this that you really wish local films be more daring, be more palatable to your senses. Imagine our surprise though when we actually watched it. Gone were the assumptions that this is another half-baked attempt to cash in on the masses "quench" for love teams and fairy tale stories. Though there are times that the movie threads the old beaten path, it also dares to do much more than the usual romcom.

George Harrison Apostol (Sarah Geronimo) or better known as DJ Heidee is fast becoming the most popular DJ in town with her segment Heartbreak Hotline. DJ Heidee gives love advice to those who are having trouble with their relationships. Most often than not, she advices her callers to break up with their partners instead of working things out first. One caller (Megan Young) complains about her playboy boyfriend Andrew Escalona (Gerald Anderson). When she breaks up with him on air, Andrew threathens to have DJ Heidee investigated and suspended by the KBP not unless she helps him win back his ex-girlfriend.

Here's the thing with "Won't Last A Day Without You" - it's not perfect and it's not that be-all romcom film that changes the game. But what it dares to do differently works well enough to catapult the film into being better than most of the competition. Yes, it still had a tendency to do unnecessary scenes like when Andrew and DJ Heidee first meet at a bar or Andrew showing off his abs but mostly those
problems are forgivable and more importantly, forgettable. You'll be having so much fun laughing that you will forget all other shortcomings. What we really liked most about it is its story. It's unique, creative and a breath of fresh air. The movie was well-paced as well. Never did we feel it bog down or did we feel that things were rushed. As for the acting, we really believe that Joey de Leon brought more life to the film. A close second was Sarah Geronimo. She truly showed her versatility in this one. While Gerald Anderson was so-so. He really had a hard time pronouncing local speak and what's up with him forcing a deep voice? It's out of character and weird. All in all, "Won't Last A Day Without You" is a fun film at its core and while it's not the best, you'll stop caring once you laugh your ass off.

New Year's Eve

Even though the ratings are low, i appreciate the movie a lot. Giving self-esteem to the viewers and uniting individuals from different walks of life because of one very important event and that is the NEW YEAR’s EVE. Resolutions, New Year’s Kiss, Time Square Ball, etc. A romantic comedy film that touch different lives, different stories but aiming for a happy new year’s eve. A daughter reconciling with her dying father, a nurse far away from her husband, two couples reuniting once more, strangers stranded in an elevator, a young and old individual helping each other, teens experiencing love. What can you ask for? A movie filled with all spices, and the power house cast. A feel good movie that inculcates learning to the viewers: about life, oneself and love.

Mountaineering is my hobby ^___^

"Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books."
John Lubbock

One of my beloved sport is Mountaineering, it taught me different kinds of things from self-discipline to loving mother earth.  I’m not fond of getting dirty, feeling uncomfortable but this sport changed me a lot. In the mountains it’s you and your colleagues alone. No one is going to be there to cook your food for you nor will wash the dishes that you used.  Being out of your comfort zone made me realize many things, First is that I am not really afraid of the dark, different insects and whenever I do strenuous activities I don’t really get tired instantly. Mountaineering is 10% Physical and 90% Mental. Its using your mind pushing yourself to the limit of what you can do. Before whenever I climb the stairs it felt like I ran for a 10 lap jog. But in the mountains we walk 6-14 hours maximum with heavy equipment in our bag I guess the sport really can bring the best and worst out in you.

" Discrimination is a disease - Roger Staubach "

What i hate the most is Discriminating/Labeling people.. from Nigga, Negro, Poor, Douche, Bitch, Lesbo, Dumb, Thin, Fat, Ugly, Homo, Lesbo, Geek, etc.. Nobody wants to be treated like that or to be called that way.. EVERYONE NEEDS RESPECT, Discrimination is just a sign of INSECURITY and ANGER towards a person.

To those person who discriminates and label people, i say to you: You don't know the person that well,
You don't think like them,
You don't feel what they feel and
You're not there in the hardest part of their lives
to Judge him/her that bad.
THEY DEFINITELY KNOW THEMSELVES BETTER THAN YOU.

What's important is being real to what you feel and being real to yourself.

You can call me anything you want from ilong, mataba, panget to whatever you want. i'll just say sorry because being me f*cks the hell out of you! :)

Like what Jacky Robinson once said: I'm not concerned with you liking or disliking me... All I ask is that you respect me as a human being."

AND
I AM ME!
